i got sick of dealing with paper clips or little pieces of wire that would never stay in right, whenever i wanted to put the car into diagnostic mode. so with a little research into the wiring diagrams, i made a handy diagnostic switch ! now if you want to check your CEL codes, or put the car into diagnostic mode to check the timing, just flip the switch !
to make your own, all you need is some type of switch from a car parts store. make sure the switch is sealed, meaning that none of the terminals stick out of the back of it. next unwrap the tape from the harness that goes to the diagnstic box and find the ORANGE wire. slipce into it, but dont cut into it, so that anytime somone works on your car (toyota maybe) and wants to put the car into diag mode, it will still work. connect one wire from the switch to the orange wire you just exposed. then connect the other wire from the switch to any ground point on the car. tape everything back up and you are now ready to use your switch ! this will work on any OBD1 3sgte. it should also work on an OBD1 5sfe, but doubble check a wiring diagram to make sure they didnt change the color of the wire that needs to be spliced into. ![]() This post has been edited by lagos: May 21, 2006 - 8:40 PM -------------------- 15PSI - 30MPG - Megasquirt Tuned

QUOTE(lagos @ Jul 22, 2006 - 10:49 AM) QUOTE(Bigmeanbulldog55 @ Jul 22, 2006 - 10:40 AM) I know it's been awhile, but I need this up. I'm in the process of doing this, and I can't find the orange wire. It is the same color for the 5sfe? your basically just grounding out the TE1 wire. so you can try to look at the back of that diagnostic box to see where it goes. i just looked at the 5sfe diagram i have, and it says that it would be a solid yellow wire on a 5sfe. im just not 100% sure if the diagram i have is a 5th or 6th gen one, or if the colors changed at all during that time. That was quick, you the man. -------------------- Live Free, Be Happy
