I took pictures for those of you who want to install an injen intake or any other intake. I think installing an intake is basically the same for any intake on our Celica. The air filter box restricts valuable air from coming in and only has one source of air come in from one direction. An intake has air coming in from all direction. Take a look at the picture below.

From what I understand the original pipe that comes in from the guard doesnt flow air. It is actually the manifold that sucks air from it. When you disconect it & put a ram pod on then it becomes fairly useless, espeacially caues the hot air from the engine would get to your filter before any air from the original factory pipe.
The heat shield you have are the best things for the exposed pod filters... If you havn't ..try runing a 2.5 or 3 inch pipe from under the car from those air vents on the splash guard under the front & run it up between your raidiator & gear box ..up past or along side your battery & face it toward the air filter & see it the outside cool air helps even more. A tip is to put a stocking over the end of the pipe to stop leaves and cigaret butts from getting into the pipe. If you like the original pipe then do what I saw done to a car in when I was in Sydney (Australia). Some jap had cut holes in the lower part of his front guard between the bumper & the wheel & had those mesh air vents put on.... When I asked him about how he did it..he said he removed the guard..took out the old factory pipe which is connected to a resonating box and ran a 3inch from the original hole & positioned it with wire to hold it in position. Then after the guard was cut & the mesh vent attached he put it back together & used adhesive foam/felt strips to neatly seal any gap between the pipe & the vent so as all the air would go into the pipe. |
