I just recently read that there is a push in Austraila to put a ban on smacking children, and found it quite interesting. Got me to thinking, what is the consensus coming from the people here (who are mostly from the US) about it? As a form of punishment (read: not abuse), do you think it's ok? Before anyone says anything, please remember to keep it civil, ok wink.gif

As a child of a mother who never hit me, i would have to be against it. I dont know if im a rare form or what, but i turned out just fine never having being hit. I think there are proper forms of punishment without having to result to something as primitive as beating, i know sometimes its all that works, but for the most part i think we should strive to avoid it. Im sure if i had a father around he would have spanked me or what not, but I just dont believe in it, and it upsets me to think about hitting or whatever you wanna call it, it doesnt let the child take responsiblity for their actions as well as other options. Ill get off the soap box now.
