I just recently read that there is a push in Austraila to put a ban on smacking children, and found it quite interesting. Got me to thinking, what is the consensus coming from the people here (who are mostly from the US) about it? As a form of punishment (read: not abuse), do you think it's ok? Before anyone says anything, please remember to keep it civil, ok

QUOTE(JFrost9 @ Sep 11, 2006 - 12:08 PM) As a child of a mother who never hit me, i would have to be against it. I dont know if im a rare form or what, but i turned out just fine never having being hit. I think there are proper forms of punishment without having to result to something as primitive as beating, i know sometimes its all that works, but for the most part i think we should strive to avoid it. Im sure if i had a father around he would have spanked me or what not, but I just dont believe in it, and it upsets me to think about hitting or whatever you wanna call it, it doesnt let the child take responsiblity for their actions as well as other options. Ill get off the soap box now. I completly agree 100%. I think beating a child is just poor parenting, as you cant think of or dont want to take the time to punish them properly. Kids need to learn why what they did was wrong so they dont do it again rather than teach them not to do something or else they will get hit. Later in life being beat will lead to vilonce in them to others. That has been proven. QUOTE(tomazws @ Sep 11, 2006 - 1:34 PM) In Chinese tradition, beating the **** out of a child is a regular form of punishment. In theory, that *suppose* to make the child remember and not to do it again. They have this saying "The child hurts from getting beaten, but the mother hurts more by beating the child"... Honestly, I don't believe in it, I think the mother ****ing ENJOYS beating the living **** outta the child. But yea,... that's the tradition. Im chinese and my parents never hit me. Ive never known that to be a tradition from any other of my chinese friends. Then again, your family might be closer to 'tradition' than my family. -------------------- Its Orville's Celica, i just drive it... |
