ok, so im coasting down to a stop when i get home, and all of a suddent when i try to put it in gear, the clutch has like a pop, and i cant engage in my gear, and when i press the clutch all the way in, it has like a loud whine, almost grind... i hope its not the clutch, i just changed it out about 2 years ago, not a lot of miles, no racing and i dont ride the clutch... plus there wasnt any burning and it has engaged fine the entire time...the only thing that i can think of that would be considered signs of wear would be is before, at idle, the car rand fine, then with the clutch pressed, no matter how far, there would be a slight whine/whistle... my thinking it has something to do with the hydrolic system, anyone have any input???

Clutch replacement should be around 500-600 with OE parts. the dealer charges 1k+. whining noises while putting pressure on the pedal usually does mean a TO bearing. If you will be dropping your tranny, its worth to change out the clutch plate, pressure plate and bearing. As an alternative to Toyota parts, I've heard good things about the Exedy OE replacement kits, and they only run about $115 for the whole kit. You may also want to consider the rear main seal.
Take it to another shop and get a second opinion. Good luck, Zo |
