hey guys...finally ready to start getting parts together to turbo my 5sfe, and i have some questions for people who have done this and/or will be doing this:

what are the major pros/cons of going hybrid and using a ge head? (i.e. extra work, hp possibilites, etc)

what type of engine managment system is the best for this situation? (piggyback, standalone?)

what octane requirement would the engine have if i did not advance the timing off base or increase the compression ratio and used a ct26 turbo?

and finally, are there any other little tips/tricks i should know?

please post replies in this thread...i think everyone should know about this.

thanks!

thanks for the help, guys.

the outback ems has got to be killer, but if i can pick up celicast3sgte's ecu for a song and a dance, how much extra would a standalone get me for the other $1375? (assuming of course, that i wouldn't need a custom harness made up).

my goal is 200hp. i know i could get more than that, but i've driven alot of 220+ hp fwd cars and been a little disappointed in the overall usability. one of my good friends has an sr20det in his se-r, and even though he's just over 200hp, you can't floor it in 1st or the tires spin like crazy. i plan to run in tsm class for autocross, so low end torque and usable horsepower are huge goals for me.

as of right now, i'm planning on:

-stock block, head, and internals
-3sgte manifold & oilpan
-ct26 turbo (stock, right?)
-recirculated bov
-fmic
-bigger injectors & fuel pump
-clutch & flywheel upgrades
-possibly lsd, depends on $

i'd like to get a pretty basic setup going and then upgrade things as necessary. my motor has under 100k on it and i take good care of it...so i'm not planning to rebuild until it's donesville. when that happens i'll upgrade to forged internals, a bigger turbo, etc.
