um... trying to decide what type of material to use for IC piping..
i've seen people use: aluminzed steel aluminum mild steel stainless steel SS and aluminum are the most expensive.. mild steel is more expensive than aluminized steel but still a lot cheaper than SS or AL... on yahoo.. aluminum is the only one that absolutely doesn't rust and SS can rust if the coating is poor quality... i've seen companies use alum and mild steel for IC piping... and i wanted to know... if mild steel is coated... would it rust? (inside or out) or since the gases going through are so hot... would it cause the coating to flake and then rust? how about aluminized steel? i think this material is the easiest to rust? would it rust from inside or outside? does coating help prevent rust? there are quite a few companies manking downpipes from coated mild steel as well... so i'm not sure if these would rust out after a few years either... reason i'm asking is cause in toronto we get snow... and i don't want my ic piping or my dp to rust out in just a couple years... thnx -------------------- |

QUOTE(elvasoshexai @ Oct 6, 2006 - 11:46 AM) how about stainless steel? i always thought the reason people upgraded exhaust piping to SS was because it lasted forever? i have stainless on mine. its been over 2 yrs and no problems at all. aluminum is also a good option, you just have to compare the costs. keep in mind that as good as aluminum is, its a thin metal, thats not as durable as stainless. very easy to scratch too. dont bother with mild or alminized , they will rust. -------------------- 15PSI - 30MPG - Megasquirt Tuned
