So, I went to the norcal JDM theory meet. I was one of 2 6gcs there, but if anyone goes on any other car forums, particularly evo forums, you'll probably hear about some "dumbass ricer in a celica"

coming off the freeway onramp only a matter of blocks away, I was trying to keep up with the EVO in front of me who was going pretty damn fast. well, somewhere around 60-70 mph on this 35mph offramp my car car lost traction and I started sliding FF drift style. now, all of a sudden the weight transfer throws my car in the total opposite direction, the car jumps over a curb, and according to my friend driving behind me, all four wheels were over a foot of the ground at one point. I flew over the small dirt embankment (a good 3ft drop.) and was now going the wrong way on a one way onramp... lucky for me there were no other cars coming that direction. anyway, I pulled over in a parking lot to examine the damage. honestly, there is some scratches on my front bumper, and the center crossmember is pretty scratched, other than that, no damage. I was EXTREMELY lucky. I was also the laughing stock of the entire show. but I'm alive, and my car is alive. and I think I'm going to start driving more careful now.

I wouldn't call you a ricer for doing something like that. I ain't no expert, but from what it sounds like, in the middle of your traction-loss, you counter-steered way too much. It lead to your car snapping back at you the other way around when your tires caught grip again. Similar situation happened to me once, but I was in an on-ramp going up in the rain with crappy tires. Luckily I didn't crash. Anywho, the fact that your car is FWD isn't the main issue. It's mostly about your tires. Give any car crappy tires, whether it be FWD, RWD, or AWD. Run the ramp at that speed and you'll be asking for disaster.

Edit: Forgot to mention this, driver experience also plays a major roll. No offense, but if you were a highly experience driver, you wouldn't have taken that turn @ that speed.

Also, I disagree with sinner96ST's statement about "they're always going to handle like ****, because they're FWD cars." A properly built FWD with a good driver can prove you wrong.

yeah, I'm pretty sure you are right about the countersteering. I'm pretty sure that if I had just let the gas off (but not pushed the brake) and not tried to steer at all, my car would have regained traction and I could have straightened out. that's what I think anyway. I played Forza for like an hour last night using only FF cars and I tried making them lose traction by taking corners real tight. if I countersteered, they jerked like my car did. if I didn't countersteer and keep on the gas, they just understeer and keep sliding sideways. but if I didn't countersteer, and released the throttle until they straightened out, then come back in on the throttle, they were able to take turns really well. so I think I can use this opportunity to improve my driving skills should something like this ever happen again.

I dunno if my tires are that crappy. they are BF goodrich tires, they're like V-rated all-season tires. cost me like $100 each and they're about six months old... I don't know much about tires so I don't know if they are crappy or not. I'm gonna get some really good ones when I get some new rims eventually.

Video game can't simulate all the different driving conditions we live on. I highly suggest you don't make any final conclusions on how a car will react based on a video game. While it may be true in some cases, in other cases it won't be.

obviously, but Forza has very realistic driving physics so I can at least deduce that it will at least be somewhat similar.
