Okay, a little diversion...
Someone posted a thread on another Celica forum and I thought I would do the same here. If you were lead designer for the Celica department at Toyota, how would you style the 8th Gen celica? The rules: * You may only post in this thread if you include an illustration in your post. Even if you are only replying to someone else. * No duplicate images. You may modify someone elses image to illustrate your point. * No bending of the rules (that includes trivial changes to an image just so you can post a reply) * Anything goes (No judgements on quality of ideas or quality of draftsman skills, please) * Its just for fun ![]() Okay, to get the ball rolling... I dunno where this came from or even if it is Toyota (probably not). Google found it. ![]() * Mercedes Benz CLK syle headlights for a modern take on the Gen6 look * Quad Ferrari-shaped afterburner taillights * Vanquish style rear end, hatch, rear quarters * Supra style rear vents/scoops * 6th gen GT4 style mid air intake * all-wheel drive -------------------- Davey

Ok first of all, the tC is NOT an 8th Gen Celica.
The engine, suspension and drive-train are what one could expect in a Celica, but the look is way too boring. The Celica has always looked different from the other Toyota models in any given generation. It has always looked sportier, and has had something unique in its appearance that couldn't be found in the Corolla or Camry. If I may compare Toyota with Honda for a moment, the Celica should be likened to the Prelude or the Integra, not the Civic or the Accord. See where the styling has gone with those for an idea of what would be to come. Regardless, some things should be consistent: Always 2 door, the option of hatchback vs. notchback, agressive body styling, while retaining some semblance of, for lack of a better phrase, "cuteness". 'Cause let's face it. Guys dig Celicas for their performance and tweakability, and girls (most of them) dig Celicas because "they're cute". Now whether it has two or four headlights, whether they pop up, whether it has folding or stationary mirrors, hoodscoop or no, AWD, etc, those are the details. In my personal opinion, the Celica should not look like a cross between the 7th and 6th generations. Styles make circles, not parabolas. In other words, they go back to the beginning, but they don't go backwards. If the style is going to regress, it's probably going to look like a cross between the 7th generation and the 1st generation, like Ford did with the Mustang: some sort of more angular, modern version of the 1st generation. I'll brainstorm when work's not busy and see if I can't come up with some idea for the shape of it. But it's NOT the tC. |
