So I had another 7afe dropped in after I threw a rod in the last one. Unfortunately, I have no idea how many miles were on this motor sooo...yea I have my doubts. What should I do to check on the shape of this motor? I'd like to build it up and turbo it. What things should I be looking for?

Not neccessarily so, my 7A-FE has 215 psi compression across the engine, and it burns oil like I own a oil well!! You need a leakdown test to help determine the health of the engine. I'm hoping stem seals will slow the consumption.

I was taught that a leakdown test should be performed after a compression test and only if you had low compression in one or more of your cylinders... but I suppose it wouldn't hurt to perform a leakdown test as well. 215 psi seems really high though, my book for my automotive class says that most engines should typically fall between 130 and 180 psi. perhaps the 7afe is just supposed to have really high compression? now I'm curious as to what the manufacturer's specs say it should be... -------------------- 94 GT - Sold -------- 69 Pontiac Lemans - Sold 88 Alltrac - Sold ---- 04 WRX - Sold 00 GT-S - Sold ------ 91 Miata - project/drift car 95 GT - Sold -------- 96 GT - New Daily Drive |
