before i start, i just want to apologize for my lack of knowledge when it comes to the names of these exhaust parts.

i have the 94 st, and my exhaust has a hole in it. the hole is at the flange right in front of the muffler where the muffler connects to the other bent pipe. the connection just rusted away on both sides of the connection.

my question is, am i going to have to buy a whole new cat-back exhaust because of this problem? or can i simply get a muffler shop to weld a piece of pipe in place of this connection? it seems rather rediculous to me that i'd have to buy a whole new exhaust because of this rusted out connection.

i also want to install one of those aftermarket mufflers. now i see that the stock muffler has a bent pipe that comes out of the front of it, but the aftermarket mufflers you see do not have that pipe. how do i go about installing one of those mufflers? is there alot of cutting or welding involved?

thanks for your input,

dan

I purchased a $40 aftermarket one on ebay and had installed for $35 (w00t El Muffla in el monte!). They had to wield on a converter (1.8" to 2.5") but thats it. My dad warned me that by doing this, the wielded connection could rust out in as little as 1.5 years. I'm not particularly concern about this, because of how little I spent on the project and how good it sounds. It may be only $40, but damn it makes the car sounds so much better than some stock v8's and especially better than honda farters.

This is what I got.. but obviously for cheaper... $15 bid + $25 shipping.. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Racing-3-Du...067984505QQrdZ1

So in conclusion, if you plan on keeping the car for a long time and you really want to do it right, get a complete new exhaust with lifetime rust protection warranty. Also do this if you want the performance of having 3" complete exhaust. If you are like me and are using your 6gc as an intermediary car until you can make enough to afford a new vett, then get the cheap ebay one.
