does the alternator charge the battery at idle? i need a high output alternater, but the ones ive found are 200-300 price range. im looking for something cheaper and was thinking about using a turbo timer to charge the battery for me. anyone know of a dirt cheap turbo timer or do it yourself instructions, just need the car to run for a couple minutes after i get out.
was kicking around the idea of a relay and capacitor to keep the ignition on, but im not sure how to wire the ignition to stay on without the key This post has been edited by Stu37363: Feb 4, 2007 - 12:03 PM |

sounds like the problem i had with my "dying" alt. when I first installed my sound system I ran it off the stock alternator. the overload of current draw eventually killed my alt. Whenever I turned up subs, I would have to let my car idle to "charge" the battery before I turned it off.
The alt had enough power to run the car/system/acc but it didnt produce enough power to charge my batt properly. |
