Well, my pursuit for the manual conversion has started. I found a company in California that specializes in used Lexus and Toyota parts. They have a used manual tranny from a 94 GT with 89K miles on it, and they want $300 for it. They say they test and inspect all parts and have a 6 month warranty on them. Is this a lot of miles for a used Celica tranny? When do these things usually die or break? I know they are very expensive to replace at the dealer, so please advise.
Sincerely, Auto GT owner |

For $300 !!!!. What's the number or email address? I want one too!!. Maybe they'll have a manual tranny that will fit on my ST. I would replace the clutch plate and the flywheel for parts that support more power and install it myself. Unless there is other work to be done. I think these transmissions will last a long time as long as they are not abused. You said that they test them so it probably still is in good condition. I've seen celicas that have way more than 200,000 miles on the original tranny and it still works good. You should probably wait for someone else with more experience with this car to answer your question though. Just my 2 cents.
What other work will need to be done if you are replacing your auto tranny with a manual tranny? Will this cost less than converting you auto tranny to a manual tranny? |
