I just bought my daughter a 97 Celica ST Limited Edition. Im trying to pin point a noise that I get when going above 40 mph but very prominent at 70. I get a thumping type noise that sound like a tire that was rotated and cupped but the tires (though needing to be replaced due to not much tread left) seem to be evenly worn. Could this be a wheel bearing. Im more use to a bearing making a roaring type noise.

From my experience a wheel bearing is usually a roaring noise. Squeaks are normally something with the brakes. As for you, try rotating the tires front to back and see if it changes at all. If it does, it's your tires. If not, check your suspension parts, wouldn't hurt to have the alignment checked too, though it most likely isn't going to cause noise. -------------------- ![]() |
