QUOTE (igotta52-FEturbo @ Jan 8 2003, 11:46 AM)
The only difference between the 4agze and the 4age is that the gze has like 10 more horsepower. I think that the best thing for anyone with an Celica ST is to get the 95-current engine and tranny for $1800 plus shipping.

The 4A-GZE is a supercharged engine rather than normally aspirated, so it not only has more horsepower, but also has a lot more torque than the 4A-GE. From the three or so sources that I've heard from, the 20 valve silver top 4A-GE is also over-rated on the horsepower figures. Xpander, who did the 20 valve silver top 4A-GE swap, estimated that his car is only slightly faster than a Celica GT.

I think a better option for people considering doing a swap with their ST is the 4A-GZE, because it's got a lot more torque and a slight horsepower increase. Also, I've heard that it's cheaper to get more power out of a supercharged engine than a normally aspirated engine. With that said, however, the newer 4A-GE that you're talking about is the black top engine, which may not be over-rated like the silver top is. Also, I think that regardless of which engine you get, you're better off getting a whole clip, so that you get all of the accessories, bolts, mounting parts, ecu, etc., because it's very very hard to source individual small parts like that from Japan.
