3SGE K&N "cold air intake", any one tried it on a non 3SGE celica? Options

So i was lookin around for an intake for a buddy of mine and went onto K&N's website to see if they had it. After i found it, got the part #, i decided to see what they had for our cars. They had just pannel filters except for the 3SGE powered UK/JDM/EU celicas. So i took a look at the kit and how it installs and every thing..and to me it seems just like a 90 degree bent plastic pipe with a filter, then a snorkel that goes down into the splash sheild. The 90 pipe seems like a rip off for the price, but the snorkel idea is kinda interesting. Any one every rigged up a snorkel like on this kit? or does every one just run the piping through the regular intake box duct?

I got that kit, but then i have the 3S-GE too as you know, so no real help there!

It works really well, before i got it though, i just used some flexi piping from a hardware store attached to a regular funnel like you use to pour oil with, which went up through the bottom of the airbox. Worked just as well, but didnt sound as cool
