I have a JDM (Jap Import) Celica SS-II (3SGE)
The speedo reads in Kmph (180kmph being the uppermost speed on the dial) So when I bought the car originallly it would hit the 180 limit and power would die, (Fuel being cut once reaching the 180 mark.) I put bigger wheels on (18") and got a friend to drive behind me, I managed to get 198hmph. (My dial showed 180 but due to the bigger wheel diameter my speedo was out by a few KM) I Put a speedo cable convertor onto my speedo cable and this has a gearing system inside a small box which when connected, makes the KMPH dials read out in MPH. i.e. when my clock now shows that I am driving at 80KMPH, I am actually travelling at 80MPH We use MPH here in Ireland, so most people who buy a Japanese import here usually spend quite a bit of money by replacing their entire dial cluster and fit a new one that reads in MPH. Anyway..the point I want to make is this..... Before I could go to 180KMPH (112mph) before the limiter kicked in. Now with the converter installed, I presumed that I would hit the 112mph mark and would have the same issue........ Nope....the car went up to 138mph and there was still a little left, I'm sure if there was more road it would have gone another 5mph. So, in my case fitting this simple device (GBP£100 including post and packaging from the UK) seems to have fixed my limiter issue. Anyone else come across this? |
