What is better? Auto or Manual..of course Manual is the best!
I got an automatic because the auto had lower miles..I want to get a new Celica to just make it manual but the miles are high and the price is overpriced. My girlfriend said if I am going to buy a car why buy another Celica... Is there any way that I can turn my auto to manual? Instead of buying a new car? Anyone in Southern California that could do it? |

actually, my auto 97 ST hits 105 at redline in 3rd gear and the car still slowly pulls, ok, very slowly. In terms of the 105-110hp the ST has, the 5spd does make a difference. It has shorter gears and is more efficient. Now with z28’s, the autos are actually faster, and the longer gears combined with the constant throttle of an Auto is good for a turbo car. But with NA power, the shorter gears of a 5spd make a noticeable difference. The OD button does make a slight difference, but it does disable 4th gear when turned off. It wont make an ST faster than a trans am, let alone a turbo trans am. The only hope of keeping up is being an excellent driver on a very twisty course. And when I was at LACR, I made runs with OD on and off and it did not make a difference. I was messing around with a 03 G35 coupe on a mountain road and several times I would leave him about a mile behind. When I pulled over to a side of the road with a viewpoint, the guy pulled over and asked how much power my car had. He felt bad that his 280hp car had trouble keeping up with my 105hp car. Put me in the driver’s seat of the G35 and I can kick the **** out of any NA 6th gen. Celica. That guy just didn’t know the limits of his car yet. I never ever say that my car is fast. When people ask me about it, I say its pretty good for 105hp, which is the truth, my dad’s civic dx has more HP and it’s a whole lot slower than my car. Btw there is no chance in hell that a Viper, a 6spd 400+hp extreme handling, high quality machine will ever lose to an auto ST in anything other than a MPG race. Let alone an American muscle car with a V8. Neither Auto nor manual is better globally. It is up to personal preference. I like auto for daily driving, nothing beats the fun of driving a manual. Put my car next to another 97 st with a 5spd and I will get owned, given that the driver knows the car. -------------------- 1994 Celica GT4 WRC Edition
