I was thinking I'd do this to my car, it seems like a pretty easy, cheap and effective thing to do. i want to install a magnetic reed switch onto the ignition. I'll hide the switch under the carpet somewhere, and keep a magnet in the car, so I'll have to have the magnet over the switch before I can start the car.
I was reading http://www.6gc.net/forums/index.php?showtopic=16174 , and from what i gather: Starter This wire is used for remote start and for starter-kill, which is when the car won't start if the alarm is armed. The starter wire in a sixth generation Celica is black/white, and is located at the ignition harness. Like the ignition wires, it's a fairly thick wire. I can make this work if I just put the reed switch inline with this black/white wire? Can someone tell me if this is right for the application i want? Also, will this allow me to have the car "on" as in electrical wise, so if the key is turned to 'ACC' or 'ON', without the engine started, can I still listen to music and everything, without the need for the magnet? One more thing, if this is the right wire, where would I find this? The "ignition harness", is this just inside the steering column? This post has been edited by ShadowFX: Jun 6, 2007 - 8:37 AM |

Haha. Well I figure I won't bother flicking the switch back when I'm done, and with the magnet, I wont need somewhere to mount it, I can just do it under the carpet somewhere. I'll keep a spare magnet in the car too
Also what I want to do is only use the magnet to enable starting the engine, not to actually start the engine, with this, would I just have the switch inline with the black/white wire? |
