I'm a horrible procrastinator. When it comes to work/school, I always wait until the very last minute to get stuff done.

At work, if they expect a software application in two weeks, I usually do whatever until a couple days before it's expected and then I start on it. Normally, I'd do it immediately, have it done in a day, and impress people, but lately, I've just been procrastinating.

Last week I started my quarter-long programming project at 2am, eight hours before it was due. I ended up getting a 100% grade on it, but it was stressful.

Today I've got four data mining projects/assignments due by 10pm, and I've yet to start on any of them. I also have a 6-10 page term paper for another class due at 3pm, and here it is, 11:18am, and I'm on 6GC, with an empty Word document where my paper should be. tongue.gif

And then tomorrow I have a 5 page paper due for another class, and I'm sure I won't start that until tomorrow morning.

I've also been putting off job hunting (I'm done with school in one week,) but my excuse for that is that I have to get the new 6GC online so it's impressive when I show it to future employers. wink.gif

Does anyone else procrastinate this badly? Have any tips for getting over my procrastination habits? I need to get back into the habit of not procrastinating when I actually get a good job here shortly.

O Great One,

don't be hard on yourself for this. It's human nature to put off anything that doesn't generate immediate gratification. You apply yourself faster and better on things that interest you. The better the pay-off, the better and faster the work. This may sound like the start of a 12-step lecture but...at least you are aware that it's become a thorn in your side. If it comes to have an impact on your prouductivity, you can't beat a to-do list and a good daytimer. I am speaking from experience. I used to have a slack do-it-as-it-comes type of job. With cut-backs and technology changes, I've had to adapt the way i tackle my daily routines. I used to throw out the daytimers they issue here to every employee, what did i need that for? Now i have on on my desk at work, one on my desk at home and my portsable is chock full of meetings, deadlines and projects.

bottom line, get organised...delegate tasks when you can and put aside distractions to attain your goals.

merde, that was long-winded. and to think i replied to this while i was teching a live radio show. my problem is multitasking (i hear it leads to lesions on the brain) and taking it too far
