Ok, I have a power acoustik 980 watt plasma sphere amp (part # TS980-2... I think). Its hooked up to 2 kicker comp subs. Today I was listening to it at medium volume (not even close to the loudest I've ever had it) and the LED went from green to red. I'm pretty sure the subs didnt blow. There was no loud noise, It just stopped working. The amp wasnt hot at all so it didnt overheat. Is there some way to reset it or something. I've turned my car off and let it sit. I disconnected the power cable from my battery and the LED is still red which the manual says stands for "protect". I checked the fuses (by eye, not with a meter) and they seemed ok. Can anyone help me out with this? Is there a trick to get it working? What should I do?
Thanks for all your help This post has been edited by aslearvert: Jun 14, 2007 - 9:09 AM |

Its been awhile and I didnt know if anyone was still interested, but I thought I'd post whats goin on with this. We determined that the amp was bad because no matter what we did the amp would not go out of protect mode. I got a new one, its a kenwood KAC-8103D. When we replaced it, the amp worked and did not go into protect mode, but the subs were barely working. We found a test to use online to see if the subs and amp were bad. We hooked up my ipod directly into my amp and ended up getting the sound we were looking for, so this meant the amp and subs were working fine. This left the deck and RCAs to rule out. We pulled the deck out and replaced the RCAs and still barely any sound came out. We heard that the outputs on decks can blow, so thats prolly what happened. I talked with a sony rep (for a VERY long time) and they said they would replace it under warranty. So hopefully it works.
