r134 is a refrigerant which is used to make the "cold" in a/c system. The oil is there to lubricate inside of the lines, as well as the internal components in the a/c compressor, evap. core, etc. If you plan to recharge your a/c, make sure to buy an a/c recharge kit that has a check meter. This will make sure you don't overcharge the a/c system.
