sup guys , im new to the forum , however i dont have a celica , but a 94 corolla . from what i understand , the 94 celica st shared motors with its cousin the corolla in the same year , 4afe right? i think so .
anyway , seems every one in the corolla community is spinnin there wheels tryin to figure out how to do the infamous 3sgte swap into the corolla. i seen some celica's that bared the 1.6 sporting this swap . i know its not a bolt in replacement , nor a plug and play engine . also in this months turbo and high performance magazine , theres an editor telling a kid the this will be a strait bolt in swap. ???? somebody shed some light for me . is it or isnt it? i know that i will need the 3sgte out of an mr2 , cause the alltrac tranny is useless here in the states , considering the only thing alltrac was the 91 corolla wagon and it bears a complete different transfer case and tranny. i know i can also use the e153 double syncrinizer 5-speed out of the rare v-6 camry. what about the motor mounts ? you guys know of anywhere or anyone that might make a mount relocation or altering kit? also did the power steering , a/c , and cooling system suffice with the st's exhisting 1.6 setup? such as a/c working w/o freezing up , power steering hoses and pressures fitting the rack and pinion? and also the radiator being an efficient cooling for the 3sgte? last thing , any body on here have a st with a 4agze swap ? you guys would be amazed at how many parts the corolla and celica share on the chassis 94 and earlier. thanks in advanced for your help. -------------------- |

All 6th gen. Celica st's have a 1.8 7afe engine, not the 1.6 4afe. Those engines do share the same "mounting pattern" as they are both A-series engines, so a 4a engine could be bolted in right where a 7afe was.
To place a 3sgte in a celica st means you have to change the motormounts, as it is an S-series engine. This would also be the case in a corolla, but I don't know if the engine will even fit in the engine compartiment. I'm not sure if the 1.6 cooling would be enough, but I would not bet on it. And then it's also getting the wiring and all done, which would be a whole lot of work as it also is with a celica (with just about every engine swap). I'm not an expert on this matter, but I know it's far from a straight bolt-in swap. As far as celica 4a swaps go, I only know of some with the 4age swap on 6gc.net. Hope that helps a bit...
