Car Repairs are lame... Options

I now owe 300 more bucks to the parents cause a bolt snapped that held the bracket that held the alternator.

And the serpentine belt is needing replacement cause its fraying even though there are less tha 5000 miles on it.

btw, the 300 bucks is labor to get to the dang bolt which costs probly 2 bucks.

you are getting f*&^ked over if your gonna pay 300$ for a 50$ job. i just had 2 caliper retaining bolts drilled out and replaced for 50$ (64.50$ + taxes with a receipt). shop around, use the phone or the web...you can get a better deal

in the future i will, i just need my car asap now...

but you have to take into account the job and what needs doing...

how many hours did the caliper job take? how much should mech work usually cost on a car?

my guy did it in less than 1 hour. drilled out and re-tapped both retaining bolt receivers and built (cold-rolled threaded stock with a bolt welded on the end) the 2 retaining bolts. it's not rocket science. if i had access to a lift or a decent jack-stand i would have done it myself (it happened on sunday and no one was around). how long it takes is dependent on the skills of the tech. how much it costs depends on the local market. shop charges around here are 50$-65$/hr.
