Currently rebuilding my 5SFE and I am taking my block to the local machine shop. $30 per cylinder. Would there be any significant increase if I went .02 (.5mm) over? Also what else would I need besides new pistons and rings?

Bare minimum... new pistons and rings (should include new pins too). You don't need to change the rods or the crank... so long as you buy the proper pistons. Recommended, check main/rod bearing clearances, all new seals, new oil pump, etc.

I was thinking for a while about doing the 3sgte swap but a few of my buddys tell me just rebuild the 5sfe with some beefy internal work and turbo the motor cause they said i would save more money and it would be a lot easier cause there wouldnt be any wire harness problems and why would i drop down in motor size why not just keep the 2.2L im still undecided so if you could help let me know and thank you!!
