Hi, everyone.
I just got a 94' Celica and its pretty trashed. Everything is in pretty good condition but the paint is horrible and its got 160000 miles on it.

BUT I got hookups on engines cuz I own a shop in big bear and my mechanic knows people. Well he told my Pops that he can get a 2.2 litre engine that would fit right into the Celica ST (He was just looking for the biggest application), but I wanted a 3sGTE and am not sure if the 3sGTE had a 2.2 litre engine. The 2.2 litre engine has 18000 miles on it and is gonna cost me $500 for the front clip plus performance/turbo headers and exhaust.

Anyways can someone tell me if there was a 2.2 litre engine for one of the Celica GT's in Japan and if it is 3SGTE.
Thanks

the 2.2 L is the USDM 5sfe, used in USDM 6th gen celica GTs and also in USDM MK2 MR2 Non-turbos. the 3sgte and its counterpart 3sge, are both 2.0L. the 5sfe is 135 HP. and the 3sgte ranges from 185HP to 255HP (feasibly) and the 3sge ranges somewhere like 180HP to 220HP (feasably). and none are just direct drop ins for a ST celica, all of the above need new transmission and new drive axles as well as new shift cables and wiring harness, ECU, etc.. theyre all do-able just not as simple as your mechinic is making it out to be.
