RWD conversion... what would it take? Options

I have been pondering doing this for some time, but have honestly got no idea were to start.

Im going to go turbo on my 7a this winter, and know that im going to be replacing the auto tranny later this up coming summer.. Oh btw I drive a 95 St Auto..... I have seen some members here doing the GT4 conversion.. And that got me thinking... if im going to be doing a tranny swap, and I want to get into drifting soon too.. (And im going to do a rear disk brake conversion soon too) I might as well try to knock it all in one fell swoop..

im not afraid of tackling a project of this size. And I know that if I prep myself correctly I should not have any trouble doing either..

My question is. Where would I find the drive train that would fit my car?? ive poked around google and such. but not found much at all.. Either im using the wrong search functions. Or just not finding what it is I want..

Any help or advice that you (the community) can provide would be much appreciated..

but using the gt4 rear end is not as easy as you think it will be. Your better off building everything from scratch.

My recomendatoin to you is to use the japanese lexus engine and transmission. The 4age black top that has a rear wheel drive transmission. You can also get the rear suspension also and weild it up. You will just need to get a custom drive shaft and your gold.

But word of warning, suspension work require alot of knowledge. If you set the camber/toe-in incorrectly can cause your car to lose control in high speeds. I'm not saying if you go past 60 mph you car will automatically flip.

I think your wrong at this point.

The GT4 is a 50/50 AWD car, so 50 percent is going to the back. With tufy's 600 bhp that would mean a maximum of 300 before shattering your rear diff.

I dunno about the whole, build it all from scratch thing. That cost would sky rocket your overall cost. It would be "easier" to use the GT4 rear end with a rebuild on it. Weld that up, then have some custom axles made and a drive shaft. Put in a stronger diff. and you should be fine.


But as stated, there are quite a few locked threads on this topic. Run a search from it covering each subsection and you will have a lot of posts show up.
