My guess is because I've seen this many times. Check on your floor first if you see something that looks like broken plastic pieces or macaroni, whatever you want to call it. This tells you something has broken. There is what you call a brake pedal sensor if you follow along all the way to the top of the pedal. If you press and depress your brakes, you will see a male metal piece go into a female hole. << sounds a bit nasty. But just bare with me. If you see the male go into the female while the brakes aren't pressed, you will need to replace this piece. For temp testing, you can put a spoon if you will in between these two pieces and you will see your brake lights turn off. You can also put a nut and bolt, as long as the head of the bolt is not too fat, and your problem is solved. This is common for any car as this brake pedal switch is only plastic. Does any of you hear a sound whenever you release your brake pedal real quick? That is the sound of what I am talking about when it bounces off this piece. Good Luck, seems like a simple fix.
