There have been a few threads about this idea but nothing that was very informative/complete. I have an ST and I feel that for the power goal I have (250hp), the easiest on my wallet/brain would be fitting a turbo onto a 4A-GZE. I consider the s/c version because I have heard that stock internals can handle quite a bit of boost (12-14 psi iirc) which with the proper tuning could achieve 250.

But as I said, nothing on the site seems to give a lot of info on doing this modification and I'm not asking for a volley of information but if anybody knows of other sites or really anything that can offer more information on this it would be greatly appreciated. I always research things thoroughly before starting a project and I want as much as I can soak in.

I want to know what parts I will need like:
What kind of exhaust manifold will accept a turbo (what engine has one stock, does it need to be custom fab, do any performance companies make one)
What kind of turbo(s) links up to said manifold
Does the TB for the s/c accept the port for the turbo inlet
Should I use the low CR 4agze or use the 20v and swap out for low CR pistons and rods
Has anybody done this kind of work, if so, who

The easy way... use the stock 4AGZE bottom-end, which is very strong. The rods rival those of the 3SGTE and the pistons aren't too shabby either and you'll want the low comp pistons if you plan on building a reliable boost motor. The 4AGZE mounts the supercharger on a short intake manifold, which cannot be used with a turbo set-up (unless you twincharge, but that's a whole nother can of worms). In other words, you'll need to source a FWD 4AG intake manifold, which isn't very hard. Depending on which version of the 4AGZE you start with, it's either a bigport intake manifold from the AW11 MR2 or the 88-89 Corolla GTS. The other is the smallport 4AGZE (90-91 JDM), in which case you'll need an intake manifold from either a 90-91 Corolla GTS or a 90-92 Geo Prizm GSI. As for the turbo manifold, there is no stock turbo 4AG manifold, but there are plenty of aftermarket choices. Basic log type, custom, tubular, etc. Plenty of choices, just be sure it's designed for a FWD 4AG. The RWD models may have clearance issues. Again, like the manifold, a lot of different turbo choices depending on the manifold choice and what you want. Custom flanges for different turbo choices only require minor mods and welding. Need to know more?
