I will be buying a 3sgte for my three swap coming up soon here once i get some things straightened out...

So if i were to buy a caldina 3sgte would that still be direct bolt on to my GT tranny/ engine mounts?

Obviously the caldina has more power "out of the box" over a 3rd gen 3sgte but i am wondering why more people havent swapped in a caldina 4th gen 3sgte?

Would the caldina motor be a better block to run if i did alot of engine work on it? ie: is it a stronger block?

thanks for your help guys, i got the shop i am going to use to do the swap for me(i know ya'll think i should do it myself, but i hate working on cars mad.gif ) so i will let them deal with it, i'll just sit back and watch smile.gif
So basically they are waiting for me to order the block, but i am not in a real hurry here i want to make sure i get the right motor, for right now, and for years from now...

thanks for all your help guys, ya'll rock

IIRC the caldina 4th gen 3s will bolt up to the GT tranny with no issues. Also the engine mounts are the same

more people haven't swapped in the caldina engine most likely due to avaliability and price. the 2nd gen is a cheap swap and works out well. the 3rd gen is celica specific, so it alreay is set up to work just fine in a 6th gen body. (as in cooling etc, the top mount is perfect) the fourth gen has the top mount cooler that i personally would replace and it has the one peice manifold/turbo.. ( i beleive)

It all depends what mods you have planned for it.. the 3rd gen in my mind is a better motor for a 6th gen swap than the caldina. its a much more direct swap in a few aspects (IC etc)

would it be a better block? If you are going to do a ton of engine work i'm not sure it will matter much. although i am unfamiliar with the differences between the block on a 3rd and 4th gen 3s so i cannot tell you. If you were going for huge numbers then if the cooling channels and oil channels were better etc. then yes it might be worth it.. otherwise most likely not.

personally if i were you and didn't want huge numbers, as in nice reliable power that you can possibly mod etc. i would go with the 3rd gen. if you can afford it. its set up so well to be in a 6th gen right from the start, since it comes out of the gt-4
