I think I need to replace my wheel bearing "again". This time I will do it myself and get the bearing "pressed" at a shop. So, is it hard to do the job besides the "press"? Any special tools involved?
I got a light "jingle-bell" noise while driving...not rpm dependant, had all brakes replaced 1500 miles ago, the dust boots are not touching anything. Any ideas? When I brake the noise does not stop. It's pretty constant but again no noise at idle. This post has been edited by 6G96GT: Apr 23, 2008 - 8:59 PM |

It's relatively easy. I went ahead and bought a pair of spindles with new bearings pressed in and it took me about 30 minutes to do one side. The tie-rod end or ball joint may be the only sources of frustration but they should come out with a little gentle persuasion.
The only "special" tools I needed were a break over bar and 30?mm socket for the axle nut. Other than that you may need a two or three jaw puller for the tie-rod or ball-joint if they're stuck in there good. While you're in there make sure your carrier bearing and bracket are tightly secured to the block. I too had a "jingle-bell" noise and it turned out to be that... I probably should have checked that before the axle came loose and exploded in a greasy mess under my car.
