I hate how people say Kobe made the Lakers better this year. I call BS!
Can't a player just get better on their own without owing their success to Kobe?!? WTH, Bynum's better b/c of Kobe and not b/c he's maturing after being in the league for a few years? Same goes for Farmer, Sasha, etc. And the fact that Kobe's number were worse than Lebron's or CP3 yet still wins MVP shows how stupid the MVP awards really is. Hornets were 1 game behind the Lakers in standing so you can't say team record played a big role in MVP consideration. Like I said before, if it was based on stats, LeBron would have won it , no contest. Dude average close to a triple double (pts ~30, reb and ast ~8)! That's almost unheard of (only Jordan and Big O achieved these types of numbers). And who's got the crappiest team of these three? LeBron, duh! Too bad the MVP voters are all sheep and only voted for Kobe b/c they felt they "owed" him an MVP for the previous years. Total BS... Let's see if Cheap-shot Rob and Ankle-breaker Bowen sends Kobe off with a few departing gifts. -------------------- ![]() ![]() 2002 SC430 (WC) - 19" SSR Comp-H, Daizen swaybars, Sparco Demons, JDM Soarer conversion, carbon fiber spoiler, Injen intake, front strut bar, drilled/slotted Brembo rotors 1997 Celica ST (DD) - 17" ADR, ViS Zyclone CF hood, ViS CF hatch, K&N intake, Invader body kit |

He's always carried that team but he struggled when he got all the attention. With Gasol there, that takes pressure off him and Gasol is the PERFECT fit for Jackson's triangle offense. A center that can pass, create shots off the dribble and is a low post threat can do wonders for a star like Bryant. Even stars need that 2nd go to guy..Jordan was good but he could only do so much. It wasnt till they got Pippen when the Bulls started to dominate. Same w/ Kobe. With Kobe the Lakers were good, but with the 1, 2 punch of Bryant and Gasol, they're where the Bulls were about a decade ago. Pierce and Garnett, Jordan and Pippen, Shaq and Penny, Shaq and Kobe, Parker and Duncan, Kobe and Gasol, Carmelo and Iverson, Magic and Kareem, Frazier and King...these teams dominate cuz they had that 1, 2 punch. Then you see players like Lebron James in Cleveland, Chris Paul in New Orleans, that struggle because they dont have that 2nd guy. Once those 2 get that 2nd guy, watch ou t. Why i say Paul was robbed was simple...He was a 1 man wrecking crew. If the Hornets can land somebody BIG off free agency, whether its somebody like Josh Howard off a trade or some other big man. They'll be a dominant team. David West is a solid player but he's not "that" guy to carry them over the hump. the lakers got much better this year. pretty much all of them stepped their game up. i honestly think this is the only season i thought kobe deserved mvp. previous seasons, kobe would force a shot whenever he got doubled (and actually make them most of the time or free throws). but now he passes to the open guy. so the other players wouldn't be getting those easy wide open shots if it weren't for kobe. he's no longer getting 40 points a game, but getting assists in double figures. so yeah, all them other lakers have become better players and an overall better team. but all good teams need a good leader. and that's why kobe got my vote. and btw... 3-1 lakers. like i said in a previous post... lakers over celtics. and kobe getting mvp. He forced shots cuz he HAD to. Who did he have to rely on??? This is why i say the Gasol trade made their year and made Kobe the MVP. Without Gasol, the Lakers wouldve been eliminated by now and i guarantee Bryant wouldnt have won MVP. Come on, it's so obvious the NBA don't want a repeat of last year's lowest rating finals match up. They'll do anything to get Lakers vs Celtics again. If the roles were reversed, and Lakers were down and Parker bumped Fisher (or Kobe) like that, the call would have been made. 3-1 lakers. That was such a foul. Bad call - no ref had the balls to call it with tenths of a second left. ![]() Video of foul with TNT comments: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CRGHFJlJT3U Whatever...it was a horrible call but the Lakers dominated the Spurs thorughout the playoffs. I highly doubt that, that wouldve changed the outcome of the entire series. -------------------- Note to new members. Discussions such as the ones below are forbidden.
