i will start by a short introduction :
i been living in Southern California for about 2 1/2 years now ( born and raised in Egypt) . I been going to Community college for the last 2 years, when time came to start applying to 4 year universities , i decided to go all out and applied to all kinds of schools. Well , i got in to UC Berkeley ! Sure i was excited for about a week , but as time passes , i am getting a bit scared. Now that i am 5 days or so of finishing my last semester here in community college , i am to the point where i am just terrified. So why am i posting here ? Well , the fellow 6gc community have been very helpful in the past and such , and i thought that since we are nicely diverse , i can get some good advice. i have many things that i fear , but the main thing is moving away from home, i lived at home all my life , always depended heavily on my mom for basic survival , and now i don't know what will do once i start living alone. I am planing on finding a room in a house , since i don't like the idea of a roommate ( all on-campus housing are 2+ per room). I am just wondering what to expect ? Also , since i am moving away , i am just wondering what do i take ? i need some help coming up with a list since i am clueless !! Anybody from the Bay area ?? How is it like ? what should i expect ? Since i am slightly anti-social and don't have friends ( thus terrified of a new place) , i basically have anyone to consult with and have no clue about whats coming , so i came here |

Hey Congratulations man. I think the first step for you is to stop worrying so much . It's not like you can never come back to get stuff or buy something you'll need. You'll get used to living on your own real soon, and I'm sure you'll find friends easily despite how anti-social you are. It's funny your moving up to the Bay Area from SoCal. First Nam, then me, now you. (technically you'll be there before me though haha). But what can I say about the Bay Area.. It's fun to say the least. Ofcourse I'm not your Bay Area expert, but just try not to worry so much, you're going to learn a lot from this experience .
