Hey there guys, I'm going to be attempting the infamous Scion radio install into my 95. This has been very little talked about, and I want this to get out there so other people that want to attempt this can do so. Now, there are 4 different types of Scion radios, all of which are Pioneers. Here they are:
T1802, part #: ?, found in earlier Scions, is equipped with a 6 disc CD changer, and has ability to change backlight colors T1804, part #: 86120-0W100, found in 03-04 Scions. T1807, part #: 08600-21800, found in 04-06 Scions. T1808, part #: PT546-00080, found in 07-08 Scions. Notice this is the first one to incorporate an iPod plug straight from Toyota. I'll show the harness needed below. T1809, part #: PT546-00081, found in 05-08(?) Scions. This unit also has the iPod plug, as well as pre-outs, and a color screen. I am not sure about the fitment of this radio. Scion's iPod cable, part #: PT546-21062, only compatible with the T1808 and T1809. I bought the T1808, along with the iPod cable altogether brand new on Ebay for only $100 shipped, but prices can vary. I also forgot to mention that with all of these, you can customize your own startup message. Now, you might ask what the point of this mod is. 1) It is a factory radio. 2) It incorporates the playback of MP3/WMA CD's, while maintaining the look of the factory radio. 3) Some even incorporate an iPod plug. 4) The backlight colors can be changed (T1807 and above, I believe). 5) These pump out 160W, and are made by Pioneer just for Scion, these have some good power ratings. I personally love the factory look, with the performance of an aftermarket radio, and I'm sure there are others as well that feel the same. As far as wiring is concerned, the Toyota harness is plug-and-play with these, which is the beauty of it. Mounting however, might be a different story, so as soon as I receive my radio, I'll post up pics referring to the fitment of it, and explain a how-to on what is needed to get these to fit (IF it doesn't fit as is). I hope many of you will find this helpful, and will try to go out and do this yourselves. -Matt This post has been edited by GotToyota: Jul 28, 2008 - 9:23 AM |

I have the 04 model in my car but im still running the factory GT amp, is this ideal or would the scion/piooner unit sound even better if i bypass the amp???
i think the unit itself puts out more power than the amp, is it holding it back??? |
