i posted a topic about a carbon fiber hood i bought off of a fellow 6gc member. to be exact it was the VIS oem style hood. i got it for $80. should i paint it red to match my car, or refinish it. there are some really deep scratches that go down to the carbon fiber layer. i was told i could sand it all the way down and refinish it or smooth it out and paint it. i'm not sure if i want the carbon fiber look. the cops eye up cars like that and all of my lady friends tell me my car looks dum with a black carbon fiber hood. so any suggestions are welcomed. i just want the best way to make my hood look good. thanks.

You can use fiberglass resin to fill in any horrid gashes, otherwise prime and paint. TINY defects can be filled with the prime. If you are repairing carbon fiber, i suggest not to use a typical fiberglass resin. Many are not clear or contain UV inhibitors. An Epoxy or Vinyl ester resin for CF is your best bet. (i've seen people end up with brownish yellow cf ) |
