There has always been much debate about what size speaker fits perfectly in the rear of the 6GC. Most audio shops will tell you to install a 6.5" speaker in this location but a 6.5" is actually too large for the stock mount and an extra hole or two must be made to accomodate the slightly larger size. While this is easily accomplished using nothing more difficult or rare than a few woodscrews to self tap the new locations [A method that has been used for a long time to great success] some of you perfectionists out there longed for a better fit. So I have endeavored to find it for you.
Now my speakers I used were the Boston Acoustic SL60 - Not a cheap speaker but well worth it IMO for the sound clarity. This speaker is sold as a 6" speaker with triangular mounting points along with adapter rings that bump the size up to 6.5" with the standard 4 hole mounting. I am sorry to tell you that while the 6" size fits perfectly in the stock mounting location, due to the odd three hole mounting you will still need to use wood screws to self tap and drill new holes. It's not difficult and I dare say anyone here can do it. That being said - if anyone else would like to research this farther by hunting down a 6" speaker with the standard 4 hole mounting I am 100% confident those will be a drop-in to stock mounting. I myself have already spent enough on this project and I will stop here as I'm perfectly happy with my current setup - for now. I'll be posting pics and a bit of an add on to the existing how-to for rear speakers in a little while. Enjoy. The fitment before making the two new holes - here you can see easily that all you would need are two woodscrews to complete the job with these speakers. You can also tell that if the speakers had had the standard 4 hole mounting they would be a direct drop in: When finished [The speakers come with grills and spacers so there are several ways you could eliminate the gap if you desire]: This post has been edited by DEATH: Sep 24, 2008 - 10:35 AM -------------------- ENGINE: '93 RC 3S-GTE/WRC CT-20b [18-20PSI] PERF: TRD/HKS/ARP/NGK/MSD/ACT/Blitz/STRI/APEX'i/TwosRus/GReddy/Magnaflo/KOYO SUSP: Tein/Bilstein/SusTech/ INT: SS-III SEATS/Toyota Hyper Sports EXT: WRC/TRD/404 Its a safety feature so that people like you don't end up killing themselves or everyone around them.
