Hi guys really appreciate your help. I am about to buy a 1998/1999 celica and just wanted to know what i should look out for, in terms of expected manufacturing errors eg certain faults (if there is any major one reported).
I have seen many celicas that state in their advert that they have had NEW BRAKE CALIPERS, but i havnt seen this mentioned on any other toyota cars. Is this a common error taht occurs? Also is their any rust problems, anything to look out for? Thanks, much appreciated! Amit |

They're pretty solid. I had the original calipers on my car with 200k on the clock and they were fine.
Only rust I'd watch for is inside of door on the bottom and under spoilers but this isn't a common issue just something to look out for. -------------------- |

Also how good is the engine and clutch on the 6th gen? I plan to get a 10 year old car with 80k on the clock, and plan to do at least 22k motorway miles each year for work. Reason i ask is that i dont know much abnout cars and need a reliable car |

so is the 6th gen more solid that the 7th gen? Definetly tho some of the 7th gen owners on here will disagree. I've been around both for quite a few years and I can say the engines on the 7th gens are nowhere near as bulletproof as ours but of course it all depends on the condition and how you treat it/maintain it. If you don't race them a 7th gen will last a looonnng time - too bad most owners I know do and they pop their motors usually due to random misfires near redline [Of course those motors practicaly beg you to rev them high]. Gotta also figure most 7th gens have lower miles too. Too bad you guys don't get 5S-FEs over there - IMO they are the most bulletproof 4bangers Toyota ever made. -------------------- ENGINE: '93 RC 3S-GTE/WRC CT-20b [18-20PSI] PERF: TRD/HKS/ARP/NGK/MSD/ACT/Blitz/STRI/APEX'i/TwosRus/GReddy/Magnaflo/KOYO SUSP: Tein/Bilstein/SusTech/ INT: SS-III SEATS/Toyota Hyper Sports EXT: WRC/TRD/404 Its a safety feature so that people like you don't end up killing themselves or everyone around them.
