exhaust problems, Failed WOF for being to loud Options

Hey all,

does any one know the stock dB rating for the 3sge?

New law has been passed in New Zealand here where any after market exhaust cannot be louder than stock without getting it certed.

Anyone else from NZ or elsewhere had similar problems. It appears it costs about $200 to get the check done but it cannot be said it will pass. Maximum level being 95 dB.

I am thinking of getting a different system put in and just put a silencer in it for WOF times.

Any recommendations? Its my birthday coming up so ill get the olds to help me out with it.

I am going to ring a few exhaust shops and see what they say but as we probably all know...trustworthy mechanics are hard to find.

That system was for an fe.

Just went and saw Magoo Muffler and Brake, the guy quoted me $300 for piping from the bottom of the extractors to the back with a resonator and sports muffler and tip. He said its good a nice deep sound but quiet enough when cruising and wont restrict the motor anymore than this exhaust is. And they do a sound check.

Any thoughts on this. This is the same money i paid for a similar set up on my BMW 4 or 5 years ago.

Also for everyone in New Zealand with a loud exhaust. The Police now have the power to green sticker your car and give you 25 demerit points if they believe it to be too loud or driven in a loud manner.
