hi there guys,

When my celica is turned on from cold, the accelerator peddle seems to be blocked/stuck. I am not able to gentley press it. I have to push it hard with my foot and then the acceleration peddle becomes smooth.

Does anyone know what the problem could be? Is it a throttle pump?

What's a throttle pump? confused.gif

Something is sticking. Check the pedal and pivot, cable, throttle body, etc. Lubricate as necessary. If you have cruise control, make sure the cruise cable is free also.

Check to make sure your cable isn't binding or caught anywhere, same goes for the arm the throttle is mounted to. Also make sure the throttle plate isn't gummed up.

A throttle pump is used on a carburetor, it pumps [in a single squirt] a bit of extra fuel into the throat [think if it as the area just past the throttle plate] when you push down the gas pedal. The harder you push, the more fuel it pumps, just like the harder you squeeze a squirt bottle the more fluid comes out.
It's used because otherwise when you opened the throttle plate really fast the engine would run really lean for a split second [the fuel coming out of the jets {like a fuel injector for a carburetor} can't react fast enough] and possibly die. This richens the mix long enough for the fuel coming out of the jets to catch up.

EFI cars don't have one [that I know of anyways].
