hi there guys,
When my celica is turned on from cold, the accelerator peddle seems to be blocked/stuck. I am not able to gentley press it. I have to push it hard with my foot and then the acceleration peddle becomes smooth. Does anyone know what the problem could be? Is it a throttle pump? |

First pic is perfect. Remove the Tbolt clamp on the stock intake hose where it connects to the metal throttle body to the left. See the wheel looking thing on the front? It's connected by that cable to your foot pedal. Inside you will see it's also connected to a large flapper type valve - that flapper type valve is most liekly gummed up with carbon etc. Get your carb cleaner and spray it down real good and then wipe it clean with the shop towel. Repeat until everything you can reach easily is cleaned down to the metal and the flapper valve moves freely. Reinstall the intake hose and wait till tommorrow and see if that doesn't make your problem disappear.
BTW - You might have a slight starting problem due to that carb cleaner - don't worry it goes away quickly - that's normal. If you were to do the cleaning with the engine on you would see the engine tries to die when you spray the carb cleaner. One last thing - make sure you get carb cleaner that says compatible with fuel injection systems [Not sure if they still make the old kind but just in case] -------------------- ENGINE: '93 RC 3S-GTE/WRC CT-20b [18-20PSI] PERF: TRD/HKS/ARP/NGK/MSD/ACT/Blitz/STRI/APEX'i/TwosRus/GReddy/Magnaflo/KOYO SUSP: Tein/Bilstein/SusTech/ INT: SS-III SEATS/Toyota Hyper Sports EXT: WRC/TRD/404 Its a safety feature so that people like you don't end up killing themselves or everyone around them.
