UPDATE 11.24.08 For quick and easy reference, here are pictures of the front and back covers so they're not buried in the middle of this thread
-Griff UPDATE 11.14.08: Thanks everyone for all your effort and contributions to the calendar. I think that despite a few little hiccups in round-1 polling, we pulled it off really great and it's going to be a huge success. Please see page 6 for pricing/ordering info if you would like a calendar! In a nutshell, prices are $18 shipped anywhere in the US; $20 shipped internationally. Payment can be sent to mjgriff1 (at) gmail.com I will combine shipping for multiple quantities over 5; PM me for info. ____________________________________________________________ ________________________________________ I've been thinking about this all day now. I'm just not sure what to say given the drama that ensued in the other thread. It was never my intention for it to go down that way and I feel kinda crummy about it. So I apologize for any way that I may have contributed to the little drama that ensued. Please address any comments about the thread via PM so we can keep this one clean and well, without any awkwardness or drama. That being said, I'm just gonna move past it and move forward with the project. I know a lot of you had wished for a later submission deadline, so I'm throwing October 31st out there, and I'll put up a poll on November 4th because I won't be around on the 3rd, and November 4th is election day here in the US and I thought it'd be funny, and likely the best thing to vote for that day given the choices. Submissions can be sent to 94CelicaGirl (at) gmail.com. You MUST put 6gc in the subject line!!!! (to avoid SPAM traps) Here's some of the criteria, copied from the "other" thread: I've found a way to have these made on an as-ordered basis so no one actually had to go directly through me; once the calendar is available for sale, they will be shipped within 24 hours of placing the order. They will be full color, full bleed spiral bound 11" x 17" and will cost $24.95 plus shipping (about five bucks for shipping in the US, a little more for Int'l.) If you order them in multiples (say the whole Houston crew wants to go in and have them all shipped to one presumably not floated away location) there are quantity discounts that increase in percentage with the qty. ordered. 2-11=5% off, 12-49=10%, etc. I feel very strongly that images that will appear in the calendar shall be chosen by poll, but I will dictate which images will go into that poll, to be determined solely by using my professional judgment as to whether or not the image is viable for print or not. Having almost 15 years of experience as a graphic designer, I feel that more than qualifies me to make this assessment. If I feel there is an image that is not suitable for print, I will contact the person who submitted it and request a higher resolution image. If one cannot be provided, it will not be considered for publication. Once that assessment is made, my decisions will be final and not open for discussion. I'm not going to produce crap so someone's feelings don't get hurt. I'm nice, but I'm hard core when it comes to putting my name behind something. If you don't like it, don't buy a calendar. Here are a few screen shots with EXAMPLES of how it might look. I chose these images to use for demo purposes only; they are in no way to imply that ANY decision or selection process has occurred at this juncture in time. It is not a final design BY ANY STRETCH (particularly the cover!). It's just something to look at for now. This post has been edited by GriffGirl: Dec 3, 2008 - 5:13 PM -------------------- |

^ thank you
As for when the photos need to be in by: I set October 31st to get you guys to move it along. Basically if the photos aren't in my in-box by Tuesday the 4th when I get to work, I'm not including it in the voting. So yes, you last minute stragglers are fine if you send me your stuff this weekend. I won't be on line this weekend though, so don't freak out when I don't reply to your PMs or posts about if I got your stuff or not. I will reply to them Tuesday morning, as it's likely I won't be on line Monday either because I think I'm taking that day off. As for how the voting is going to go down - Malpaso basically has hit it on the had as to how I want to do it. Two rounds - top 24 votes go into round 2. Again - the same car will NOT appear twice by the end of round 2. Round 2 will be the top 12; if one car gets picked twice, I'll move on to the next top vote that's not the same car. As for what month the images appear in, honestly, I'll probably employ my 15 years of graphic design experience to decide that myself. I'm working on getting a quote to have the calendars printed with a printer rather than on-line, so I can feel like I have some quality control over it. I want this to be a quality calendar that we're all happy with! Depending on the cost of printing though, I might need to get "pre-orders" to cover it since I'm poor and can't pony up the cash up front to cover the printing cost. Naturally if I go this route I'll know how much the calendars are gonna be. Is this something some of you would be willing to do, place pre-orders, if it means keeping the cost down by having them printed locally to me? If not, that's cool. I just need to know my options. -------------------- |
