Hey guys, I'm new to the forums, so if this isn't the right place, move the thread and bear with me.
Anyways, I've always been into Celicas. I grew up around them really. But my favorite has always been the 6th gen ones. I've noticed that as time goes by, they're getting increasingly rarer, at least in these parts. The fact that Celicas were discontinued doesn't help much either. I'm in northern California by the way. And even if I do find some good listings for them, they're usually in horrible condition, or have so many miles on them it's scary. Of course, this problem will only get worse and worse as time goes by. It happens to all cars. Yesterday, I turned 15 and a half, (haha yeah, I actually kept track of that) which is the legal age for teenagers to start driving in California. I'll be getting a job soon, and sometime within the next 3 years I would like to own a 6th gen. What are the chances that I'll find a decent one? How much does a used stock generally go for? Once I finally did get one, about how much would it cost me to turn my car into a weekend warrior? Thanks for the help guys. This post has been edited by Milk: Nov 11, 2008 - 3:45 PM |

Great. That price doesn't seem bad.
I have another question that I forgot to ask. You mentioned that twin turbos are more likely to lag than singles. Why? Is it because of the extra power needed for two turbos? Also, I once heard a while back ago that twin turbos of course do lag, but that's why there is another to make up for it..? And that when finally both do kick in, the speed increase is drastic. Sorry that sentence was worded weird. But I think you understand. Is all this true? |

And that when finally both do kick in, the speed increase is drastic. Sorry that sentence was worded weird. But I think you understand. Is all this true? okay... Lets start at the beginning. The exhaust flows out of your engine, and gets one fan spinning, witch in-turn, spins the fan on the intake side... Now, If the engines exhaust gas isn't flowing fast enough to spin the fan with enough force to suck air on the other side, then you're in boost lag, because your engine is trying to suck in air thru all this piping and inter coolers and turbo's and so on... You engine is suffocating. Now as soon as there is enough exhaust flow to spin that fan, they you're hitting boost. Right? Right. Okay, now if you try to spin 2 fans with HALF as much power (because instead of 4 ports going to one fan, you now have "TWIN" turbo or a "DUAL" setup, witch is 2 ports to one turbo and 2 ports to the other), then theoretically it'll take 4 times as long/much power to get it spinning the speed in witch you're hitting boost. Right? Yeah. Now when it does finally kick in it's also going to build up PSI pressure twice as fast... But you'll be at like 6000RPM before that happens making it pretty much useless. Mind you you'll never be able to accelerate (more than inch-by inch) from a dead stop. Then you need to wonder if this engine can HANDLE that much boost when you finally get it going. Sure, you COULD build up some un-godly amount of pressure and force the fuel in it, but would it be a good IDEA? no. Sure, you COULD run 150PSI thru it, Would it last? Or would it launch a piston rod clear out of the other side? Re-read that HOWSTUFFWORKS.com article, and explore the other options. EDITED: Remember i'm at work, so i fixed some of my bad spellings and elaborated on some un-explained ideals.
