Since I'm a cheap SOB, I'd like to know if I'm getting the right stuff before I buy. I'm looking to go 720p for my PS3, connecting to the TV with an HDMI cable and to the 7.1 surround with a digital optical audio cable, if that's the right one. I'm going generic, and as far as I know there's no special version of an HDMI cable necessary?

why only 720p What kind of tv are you using?

Receiver is Pro Logic II- but I saw no digital optical out, only HDMI among AUX out, component, and several antennas. So this means HDMI connection straight to the PS3? EDIT: other thing- I have the 40GB model, means only one HDMI output. So I'm probably stuck with just running HDMI to the TV and not having any surround?
