There is a lower piece of plastic connected to my stock tube connecting my air box to my engine. The tube has a huge tear in the middle and I duct taped it so dirt wouldn't get sucked in like the Executor went into the Death Star 2 but the dealer charges 80 ****ing dollars for that one piece of plastic. I mean come ON! So the Auto Zone by my house has plastic and metal tubes for sale but they don't connect to the piece of plastic underneath my stock tube. What does that piece of plastic do and do I need it? Its underneath the tube connecting my air box to my engine.

I am having the exact same issue. I do not wan to change to some CAI, for fears that when I do decide to sell, someone (like Me) will assume that the car has been beat. The car is plenty quick with the stock intake and I wish to keep. Does anyone know what this plastic box that hangs off the underside off the stock intake tube is for? Also, does anyone have a stock intake tube that is in good order the might be willing to part with? I had also considered using some other type of tubing to replace (stainless steel, aluminium or PVC)... comments or suggestions are appreciated.
