I have a '98 GT with 130,000 miles on it. It is properly tuned and runs great . I average about 30 miles per gallon. The engine runs smooth from idle all the way up to 5,000RPM's. At the point when it hits 5k rpm's, it wont rev any higher in any gear. It just flattens out at 5k. Other then that, it runs strong with no other issues. Can anyonr tell me what the problem is?

does it feel like the engine cuts off at that RPM, or does it just not want to go faster than that

It does not cut off, it just wont rev any higher. It remains running at 5k, but rough (it kind of stuters at 5k) and when I let off on the gas, it smooths out at under 5k.
