Ok good morning America.
well last time i rebuilt my engine i laid the block in a matter that caused the knock sensor to get damaged. I'm poor so i said f it. Well just got back from overseas and discovered the inspection is due and i have a engine light on. the car is a 95 corolla 7afe with a lil turbo on it. i pulled codes 52-Knock Sensor Circuit (open or short in circuit between 1200 and 6000rpm) and 27(Sub-Oxygen Sensor Circuit) and i know if i drive long enough I'll get a 71-EGR gas temp. 27 was due to me not pluging it back in. 71 i believe is due to me breaking the EGR vacuum modulator nipple on the under side and so i said f it and disabled the whole EGR system. after searching for quite a while I've came up with some stuff people do to fool the pcm in to thinking there's a knock senor there. Our cars have knock senors with what they call a piezoelectric element inside which generates voltage when it vibrates. and the element is tuned to engine knock frequency. So on the interweb i found this guy who successfully used a piezo transducer (radioshack part #273-073 or 273-0073 $1.99 each) to generate this signal. I wired two of them in series and loosely taped it to my fuel rail. test drove the car in test mode (TE2 and E1 pins jumped) and have not been able to get the MIL to come back. I do not recommend anybody to do this, detonation will destroy your engine due to the fact the pcm will not retard timing when needed. and to only use this with EGT and wideband as a diag tool. or in my case pass the Texas emissions test at this time i believe my engine is not pinging thus engine is running more powerfully and efficiently. cliff note: Young men provide the genius and muscle by which our society thrives. wow.
this is bad. especially on a turbo 7a. IMO you'll be doing another rebuild soon running the car like that. -------------------- Former Team 5SFTE pro member ;)
