so my right side axle needed to be replaced...so i called napa and got one, pulled the old one out, and only then did i notice that the new one had an abs ring on it. the rockauto.com site says that the abs axle is 1/16" longer than the non-abs model...but the guy at napa insists he only shows one part number, for abs and non-abs alike.

does anyone know if this is correct?

When I replaced the axles on my 94 they had the ABS rings on them. They only had 1 part number and they were compatible with both. Had no problems whatsoever.

In all honesty why would a car with ABS have different axles than a non-ABS? Axles and hubs are independent of an ABS system other than hosting the sensors.

abs axles have these 'gears' for the magnetic abs sensor which is made so that the sensor can keep track of wheel rotations... kinda like how optical drives read the land and pits of a CD

Well I know that, I put ABS axles on my 94 without removing the rings and didn't have a problem. I was addressing the question to Uberschall who said the ABS axles were 1/16" longer than non-abs axles. They're exactly the same, 1 just has a toothed ring on it and the other doesnt.
