So I was planning on doing another 5sfte set-up, but thought why not just go about doing a 5sgte set-up.
I don't plan on running an EMS anytime soon. Although down the road its obvious that I will have to. The plan is to buy a complete 3rd gen 3sge motor. Thats right a 3sge motor. The plan is to just take the head and all the electronics and TRY to sell the block. I already have turbo parts, minus the turbo. I will run with the 3sge ecu, but with the emanage ultimate. Injectors since the 3sge is side feed, I will probably go with 540s. Not sure what injectors the 3rd gen 3sge uses. I have been in contact with MCS and I will be probably be getting a crank that has already been turned down to accept the stock 3sgte rods I am using. The cost of their crank is 300, but I am in the process of shopping around to see if its cheaper to machine down the crank I have out of the 94 block. The plus side to MCS is the fact that they use 98+ cranks only. I will have the wiring harness converted for me by Doc. I did originally plan to build the bottom end with the following parts and get the 5sfe cams regrind from Geoff at Colt Cams for $400, oversized valves from a 2jz and do the head up. To be honest the machining is the thing that makes both plans pricey. I DO want to build a 5sfTe beast, but at the same time Just think of having a 5sgte. What do you guys think I should do. I'm going to be honest, I have been researching day and night for the past week. Not going to bed until 4AM and the first thing I do when I wake up is log onto the internet. Lets make this final and end my dilemma. -Will This post has been edited by bccentaur3: Feb 19, 2009 - 11:14 PM -------------------- 98 Celica gt red- totaled deer

I really don't know much about the beams. I've read that the beams head actually has a different exhaust and intake manifold flange compared to the 3rd gen 3sge. I am using a 3rd gen 3sgte turbo manifold and it should bolt right up to the 3rd gen 3sge head.
If I were to turbo a 3sge, I would do the 3rd gen 3sge. Why? Because the 3rd gen 3sge came with oil squirters. Something the previous gen 3sge motors lacked. It has the same rods and pistons as the 3sgte I would assume. All you have to do is disable the acis system so the turbo won't cause much turbulence. The beams motor is a great all motor set-up. I would assume the compression ratio in that bad boy is super high. If you want all motor go beams. I'm sure people have turbocharged the beams motor with success, but if you want big power go a different route. The stock motor plus turbo won't do much. Plus you run into EMS. This is what I will be running into as well. Some may disagree with my choice to go with the stock 3sge ecu plus piggy back of choice emanage ultimate for a build like this, but I am doing it to learn. Besides I'm not gunning for 500 whp YET.. I chose the emu because I am going to run just the upgrade ct-26 or maybe a ct27, not sure yet, but its not going to make a lot of power. I'm hoping for 300 whp this summer. And because of my 300 whp power goals I am sure I don't need a standealone just yet. Take a look at Mannys set-up. He is using the EMU on his 5sfte set-up and just look at the numbers he is producing. Thats on a stock unopened 5s. Yes yes the ct26 will poop out on me, but this will only be used for one year. By the summer of 2010 I will be ripping off the head to get it redone so I can make more power, and the obvious will come too. A standealone ems and an upgraded turbo set-up. But then again I will also use a lot of my money to redo the whole suspension set-up of the car. Again I am not building to go in a straight line. I'm building for rallycrossing purposes. -------------------- 98 Celica gt red- totaled deer
