Since I'm a cheap SOB, I'd like to know if I'm getting the right stuff before I buy. I'm looking to go 720p for my PS3, connecting to the TV with an HDMI cable and to the 7.1 surround with a digital optical audio cable, if that's the right one. I'm going generic, and as far as I know there's no special version of an HDMI cable necessary?

And one of these for the surround part? http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx...N82E16882339059 Thanks people. |

I actually just found a button that shows me the resolution of the current screen...also found out that I'm playing games in 720p.
When I first set it up, it gave me a max resolution of 1080p. The XMB is displayed at 1080p, but games (COD4 and GTA IV are 1080p compatible) are displayed only at 720p. Guitar Hero World Tour tops out at 720p, so could it have changed the maximum resolution to manually set to 720p? Anyway, I need to know how to change it back, or set it to 1080p permanently. |

Bringing up this thread again because I just got my hdmi cable last night, hooked it up to my ps3, and it automatically set my settings to 1080p. Thing is, my tv is only supposed to be capable of 720p. Does anyone know why it's automatically setting it to 1080p? Shouldn't it recognize what the tv is capable of or do I obviosuly have to manually go in and set it to 720p. My thought is that because the hdmi cable is capable of 1080p, the ps3 thinks that's what my tv can handle. ??
