I can pickup a 01 1MZ with VVTi from a Lexus ES300 for a good price. Im just worndering if it'll be a good canidate for a swap into my 98 GT. Im just worried about obd2 emissions...... thanks

In response to the concern about the immobilizer function in the ECM, you won't be able to reflash the ECM to bypass the transponder code, there is no function for erasing the code in the Toyota TIS system. On later models you can recode it in the event you lost all your master keys, but on the earlier models with immobilizer systems you need to replace the whole ECM if you loose all your keys. I'm sure Toyota would not be paying to replace ECM's if there were a way to recode them or erase the coding.

I'm not 100% sure how the transponder system works but I believe there is a receiver around the key ring that needs to read the immobilizer chip in the key and communicates that to the ECM. They do make Immobilizer bypass modules intended for remote start systems, but I guess you'd need the receiver around the ignition too...??
